I am ImaginaryHuman.

Welcome to my blog about computer games and graphics.

Actively interested in computers since 1990, my first real computer was an Amiga 500 which, at the time, was hot property. Considered by most to be the best home computer available, and serious competition for Windows-based PC’s, the Amiga had a strong following of enthusiasts.

The humble Amiga enjoyed many good years of great game development and mainstream availability. Its graphics and audio capabilities were state-of-the-art, offering creative possibilities previously unimagined.

But computers are very complicated machines, and sometimes little mistakes can throw balance into chaos. The dreaded `crash`, freeze or lock-up was not uncommon for the humble Amiga, but perhaps less so than those nasty Windows machines ;-)

When the Amiga crashed, it did so in style. In-between rebooting it would grace the otherwise black screen with an ominous flashing red box, garnished with the mystical words “Guru Meditation”. Not just a machine, but a work of art, the Amiga did everything inspired.

And so here we have the inspiration for this blog: Meditations on computer topics, and in particular game development and computer graphics.

Welcome, I hope you’ll enjoy your stay.

In general I am a game developer working on an iMac using the BlitzMax programming language. See The BlitzMax Website for more details about this great programming language.

I enjoyed my first Amiga 500 computer back around the end of 1990. I’m not sure if the 500 denoted anything to do with the fact that it only had 512 kilobytes of ram, or that a further 512kb ram expansion cost me over 100 uk pounds! But it was a great first computer. I later moved on to an Amiga 1200 and later reinstalled it in a custom tower. However, in 2000 I immigrated to the USA and left the Amiga behind for good. My wife had a desktop Mac computer at the time, so I had little choice but to use it, and now I would say I prefer the mac to any other platform.

That said, I also have Windows Vista and Linux Ubuntu on the same iMac, as a triple-boot machine. I develop games for all three platforms – something that BlitzMax’s cross-platform capabilities makes really simple and cost-effective. One piece of hardware, three operating systems and target audiences.

Currently I am working on a game which I hope might be released before the christmas rush this year.

Enjoy!

Welcome

Enjoy the fun and excitement of computer games, but even moreso, the creative expression of developing your own. And the graphics are cool too. :-)

What was that?

Categorically speaking...
